CHICOPEE, MASS. – Sen. Eric P. Lesser visited Fairview Elementary School in Chicopee Monday, Jan. 11 to read aloud and promote civic engagement to fourth grade students.
“Early literacy is one of the key drivers to our children’s educational success,” Sen. Lesser said. “Link to Libraries is at the forefront of efforts to improve literacy in Western Mass, and I’m happy to support it through participation in their Read Aloud programs.”
Sen. Lesser read “Heart on Fire: Susan B. Anthony Votes for President,” a story on the life of Susan B. Anthony’s quest for women’s suffrage and equality under the law. He also discussed the importance of civic engagement and exercising one’s right to vote.
Sen. Lesser’s visit was organized through Link To Libraries, a local nonprofit organization that aims to enhance early language and literacy skills in children residing in Western Massachusetts.
The visit was one of several Sen. Lesser has made to support literacy-based programming in his district.
